Eye movements is assessed such as saccades, smooth pursuits and optokinetic tests to are performed to detect any neurological involvement. Spontaneous or induced nystagmus are assessed.
Romberg’s Test
Romberg’s test helps assess proprioception and balance. Patients stand with feet together and eyes closed. We check any swaying or imbalance. This test helps diagnose sensory ataxia or vestibular dysfunction.
Dix-Hallpike Maneuver
Dix-Hallpike Maneuver is used to diagnose Posterior canal BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo). The patient is quickly moved from a seated to a supine position, with the head turned to the side. The presence and direction of nystagmus indicate which ear is affected.
McClure Pagnini Supine Roll test
This is a Rotational vestibular function test to observe nystagmus in Meniere’s disease or vestibular migraine. The patient is rotated in a chair and we observe any eye movement.
